PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma Injections
What are PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma Injections?
(PRP) Platelet Rich Plasma Injections promote long lasting healing of musculoskeletal conditions, using your body’s own platelets. The platelets are packed with growth and healing factors and are your body’s first response to an injury.
PRP injections, deliver a concentration of your own platelets directly to the joint in need of healing. This new regenerative treatment has been showing excellent results. Conditions that may benefit: osteoarthritis of the knee, shoulder, hip and spine, rotator cuff tears, chronic plantar fascitis, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, pelvic pain and instability, back and neck injuries, tennis elbow, ankle sprains, tendinitis, and ligament sprains.
PRP Therapy is growing nationwide. In the Richmond area, Dr. Lagosky is one of the few providers that performs PRP Injections in the lumbar spine and SI Joints.
How are PRP Injections Performed?
PRP injections are performed by first taking a small sample of your blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets out. The platelet rich plasma is then injected into and around the point of injury, jump starting and strengthening the body’s natural healing process.
PRP injections are performed safely in our office and can take up to 1 hour.
What Can I Expect from PRP Injections
PRP resolves pain through natural healing, so patients may see improvement within a few weeks. Research studies and clinical practice have shown PRP therapy to be very effective at relieving pain and stimulating healing, and returning patients to their normal lives. Both MRI and Ultrasound images have shown definitive tissue repair after PRP therapy.
Is PRP Covered by my Insurance?
Currently, PRP Injections are not covered by insurance. This is a self pay procedure in our office.
