“In a search for help for osteoarthritis in my hips, I made an appointment with Dr. Valente. At his suggestion, I chose to have platelet rich plasma injections. I am a teacher/administrator and the pain I was experiencing was affecting my ability to do my job, as well as preventing me from participating in fun things with my friends and family. I had the first injection in my right hip and then the left hip one week later. The injections themselves were not very painful—I followed the doctor’s orders leading up to the treatments exactly, and I purposefully relaxed during the injections. Dr. Lagosky is very gentle and explains exactly what to expect. The first week, I felt no pain at all in my right hip and had the same result the following week after receiving the injection in my left hip. I went to work the next morning after the afternoon injections; I was able to go shopping with friends and walk for three-and-a-half hours without pain a week after the first injections.

Since that time, I have received my second round of injections one month later and plan to follow up in six weeks with a third round. I chose to do three based on this article published at the National Institutes of Health:  Multiple PRP injections are more effective than single injections and hyaluronic acid in knees with early osteoarthritis.  

If you are experiencing joint pain, I would definitely recommend that you consider PRP injections. It has made a huge difference in the quality of my life in an amazingly short period of time. I am grateful to Drs. Valente and Lagosky for restoring my ability to walk without pain!”
